Utility Locates
GeoModel, Inc. conducts surveys for utility locates using various geophysical methods. The most common methods used for utility locates are ground penetrating radar (GPR) and metal detection.
Ground Penetrating Radar Surveys for Utility Locates
GeoModel, Inc. has conducted numerous ground penetrating radar (GPR) surveys at many sites for utility locates using a SIR-2 digital control unit and various transducers (antennas). A utility line can be made of metal, PVC, concrete, or any other material that has different dielectric or conductive properties than the surrounding subsurface soils or rocks.

Additional Utility Locate Methods
GeoModel, Inc. has conducted numerous electromagnetic conductivity (EM) surveys and metal detector surveys to locate metallic buried utilities and electrical cables. GeoModel, Inc. owns and operates EM-31 and EM-61 MK2 electromagnetic conductivity instruments
GeoModel, Inc. also owns a Schonstedt GA-52Cx magnetometer, which detects ferrous metal utilities; and a GeoMetrics Utilocator, which measures induced current through metal pipes, cables, or PVC pipes with metal wires. Pictures of a geophysicist operating these instruments are shown below:

Utility locates can also be done with the Schonstedt GA-52Cx Magnetometer and the GeoMetrics Utilocator.
